How to have a Good Friday and pain free Easter
Happy Easter! 🐰🐣
Well, nearly at least.
The Easter long weekend is a great time to slow down, catch up with family and for lots of people enjoy some well earned time off. It can also be a time where routines change and small physical stresses build up, which often leads to pain over the following days.
Good Friday and Easter often look like this:
- More time on your feet preparing food or hosting
- Long periods of sitting, travelling or relaxing
- Backyard sport or activities you have not done in a while
- Standing for longer periods than usual, maybe at church or perhaps around the BBQ or in the kitchen
Individually these may not seem like much, but when combined they can overload the body and lead to stiffness or injury.

Here are a few simple ways to stay ahead of it:
1. Pace your day
Avoid doing everything in one block. Break up tasks, sit when needed and change positions regularly. By reading this early in the week, hopefully you can spread out tasks so that everything doesn’t have to happen at once.
2. Be mindful with movement
When lifting, bending or cleaning, think about your posture and avoid rushing repetitive movements. Where possible get someone to help you lift things, even if you think you are strong enough.
3. Warm up before activity
If you are jumping into backyard sport or some other family activity, take a few minutes to get moving first. Your body will respond better.
4. Respect your current capacity
Just because you used to do something easily does not mean your body is ready for it now. Build into activity gradually.
5. Listen early, not late
If something feels tight or uncomfortable, adjust early. Waiting until pain builds often leads to longer recovery.
A little bit of awareness now can help you enjoy the full weekend without dealing with pain afterwards.
If something does flare up or you are unsure about how to manage it, we are here until Thursday to help, and then back in on Tuesday the 7th.
We wish you and your loved ones a safe, active and pain free Easter.
